[STORMREPORTS] nw VA: Single digit cold, several threats of snow on winter's return

Winchester VA

Last Thursday we basked in temperaturs near 70º. The cold air arrived
Friday. Over the past weekend, we were only above freezing a few hours
Sat & Sun afternoons.

We had a dusting of snow between 7 and 10:30pm Sunday evening. A few
stations in the Harrisionburg area (western VA {at} US33 & I-81) had small
acumulations. Small amounts also fell in the Roanoke area (sw VA)

Temperatures only reached the upper teens, with single digit below
windchills, Monday afternoon.

Monday night, temperatures bottomed out between 7 and 11 above in the
nothern Shenandoah Valley. All but 3 of 23 stations were in the single
digits. This is typical January cold, & no records were set.

With windchills in the negitive teens at times, it felt 80º colder
this morning then just 5 days ago. For that reason, many school
districts delayed opening by 2 hours this am.

We have recovered to a "balmy" reading of 22 this afternoon.

With temperatures now forecast to remain below freezing at least thru
the coming weekend, there is also several threeats of snow.

Clippers are forecast for Wed (1") and Thurs ( a dusting). In addition a
storm from the WSW could give the area our first shovable snow this
weekend.
