[STORMREPORTS] Ice Storm Photos from Central PA, Winds May Not Help

An ice storm hit Central PA overnight, home of WeatherMatrix HQ. Here are
photos that I took in State College, PA this morning:

It was possibly the worst since I moved here in 1997 and I recorded about
0.25" of ice on objects, though nearly 2 inches of rain fell.

Here is an article from the local paper:

"Allegheny Power reported 6,300 households and businesses in Centre County
were without power this morning after a night of freezing rain left the
region coated in ice."

THIS EVENING, increased winds have suddenly hit. This is likely to make a
bad situation worse. However, warm air has accompanied the winds, quickly
raising the temperature. Still, limbs dislodged by ice may fall tonight.

As I was writing this, the local National Weather Service issued a Special
Weather Statement:

...SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT... AS OF EARLY EVENING...MANY AREAS STILL HAVE
A COATING OF ICE ON
TREES AND POWER LINES. AS WINDS INCREASE OVERNIGHT...THE ADDED WEIGHT
OF THE ICE COULD CAUSE LIMBS TO SNAP AND LEAD TO FURTHER DAMAGE AND
POWER OUTAGES. PEOPLE LIVING IN AREAS WHERE TREES ARE COATED WITH ICE SHOULD
REMAIN AWARE OF THE POTENTIAL FOR THE TREES AND LIMBS TO FRACTURE AND
FALL. ALSO BEWARE OF POSSIBILITY OF FALLING ICE TO CAUSE DAMAGE AND
INJURY.

The high winds are in the western part of the state with gusts between 20
and 30

Here at WeatherMatrix HQ, temperatures increased rapidly from 33 degrees at
6pm to 38 at 8:30.
