Lanka Thursday through Saturday. This was an area ravaged by the
tsunami last Sunday. Heaviest of the cloudbursts struck Friday into
Friday night and, in all, the outbursts left 13.3 inches of rain.
Mercifully, the rains ended Sunday, but additional rainfall is in the
forecast for Monday and perhaps Tuesday.
Australia. As of Sunday morning, EST, this storm holds highest sustained
winds near 55 mph about a center which is 120 miles to the north of
Yampi Sound, Western Australia. Raymond is drifting eastward at 5 mph.
The cyclone is forecast to move ashore and dump torrential rain
across much of the north coast of western Australia the next 2-3 days.
The cyclone seems to be in a weakening stage and this should prevent
widespread wind damage.
Sunday. Sustained winds in excess of 50 mph swept Utsira, while
Bergen had nearly 2.00 inches of rain. In the far north, the town of
Jan Mayern was raked by 40-45 mph raising blinding clouds of snow.
evening and lingered into Sunday morning. Tocuman was doused with
4.88 inches of rain in a short time, while Tartagal had 2.17 inches.
