An early fall cold snap has begun with local snows on the plains
of eastern Europe. In northern Belarus, at Lyntupy, snow was three
inches deep early Monday.

Australia was as hot as 105 degrees at Marla. Coober Pedy, which read
at least 102 degrees at mid afternoon, observed relative humidity of
only 1%. On average, highs in this part of Australia are in the lower

Temperatures were mostly between 5 and 10 degrees below zero.
Bermuda was lashed by strong winds and heavy rain Friday to late
Sunday owing to Subtropical Storm Nicole. Many gusts topped 50 mph

5.8 inches.
