The following report is from me (WeatherMatrix Founder Jesse Ferrell). I
am vacationing ocean front, on Oak Island, NC, south of Wilmington. I will
update further as events warrant.

Well, Tropical Storm Alex strengthened significantly overnight, big
pressure drop and wind increase, now 60 mph with storms wrapping around
center but still not moving much. Official forecast is for it to stay
offshore (as may the winds & rain) and make its closest approach to land
Tuesday morning.

Still not much to report from here -- still partly cloudy with occasional
heavy showers, waves still not that impressive, 4-5 feet at best. Wind
still a steady clip from the ESE but not bad ad all. Tides were unusually
high last night but not damaging.

As you can see from on-air Weather Channel footage, not much different NE
of here at Wrightsville Beach although the waves are moving on shore faster
and are slightly larger than here. Buoys show waves of 10 feet offshore.
