Once again Maryland has been hit with severe flash flood. Heavy rain
from back building & training thunderstorms have left over 5" in parts
of Harford & Cecil Counties. Moderate to very heavy rain has been
ongoing since at least midday in MD's 2 most northeast counties.
Towns hit hard include Harve de Grace, Perryville and Rising Sun.
Live tv coverage has been a lot less than last Wednesday's event.
Perhaps because it is some 30 miles NE of Baltimore, instead of nearly
downtown. Or perhaps the logistics of getting crews into flooded
regions.
A AWS station has measured over 6.5" in North East MD & heavy rain is
ongoing in the area. That town also may have had a tornado early in the
afternoon.
Even though there has been limited live tv of the flooding, I do have
some footage of the incredible scenes.
One station showed a box truck washed downstream. Many scenes of rushing
water several inches deep. One station reported a house was condemned
after it was flooded 13 feet deep! Also at least one rescue that even
too dangerous for firefighters to do in the water. Instead, they bought
a fire truck to about 2 yards away from a SUV, and then extended a
ladder. Water depth was about 2 feet deep & full of debris.

>From The Baltimore Sun:
Heavy rains trigger severe flooding in Cecil Co.
Residents pump out basements; High water makes some roads impassable;
Problems also reported in southern Harford County

Many Cecil County residents today found themselves with flooded
basements, and traffic was slowed in many areas after a slow-moving
storm brought torrential rains to the northeastern part of Maryland.
Forecasters said four to seven inches of rain fell in a few hours
beginning around 1 p.m.
"We've sent several fire companies with pumps to help pump out
basements," said Harford County fire dispatcher Rich Aryes.
Several streets were impassable, public safety officials said.
There were no injuries reported, "although lots of cars are stalled" in
high water, said Mia Kilgore, communications operator for the Havre de
Grace police department.
Traffic signals were working but people were advised not to travel as
the water level at some intersections was waist deep, said Sgt. Kellie
Budnick, a spokeswoman for the Havre de Grace police department.
Budnick said residents should "stay at home until the water recedes."
Havre de Grace is on the Susquehanna River. Its waterfront promenade was
destroyed last fall by Tropical Storm Isabel.
Areas in southern Harford County also experienced severe flooding, said
Steve Rogowski, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in
Sterling, Va.
There were unconfirmed reports of a possible tornado that formed in
North East.

Here in Winchester (nw) VA, a mere .08" from a heavy intensifing
thunderstorm about 4pm. Radar estimated about 1" of rain about 10 miles
north of my location.
I'll post more on this later in the week. In addition, Wednesday (7-14)
is already been highlighted as a possible severe weather day.
