A strong tropical wave over the eastern Arabian Sea is being
closely monitored as there are indications that it may soon become a
tropical cyclone. Friday afternoon, EDT, this wave is 450 miles to the
west-southwest of Mumbai (Bombay), India, where it is drifting towards
the west at 4-5 mph.

There is a strong monsoon trough near the eastern shores of India

drifts ashore within a day or so.

Portugal had 99 degrees at Evora, and in Spain, 98 degrees was
reached at Cordoba and Caceres.

In Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, overnight rainfall was 3.3 inches at
Merida.

Temperatures were above 100 degrees at mid afternoon over much of
Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, and into southern Kazakhstan. Valleys in
Tajikistan also topped 100 degrees. One hot spot, Uch Adzhi in
Turkmenistan, reached 110 degrees. Saturday, some of these same areas
were reading 100 to 105 degrees by mid afternoon.
