I woke up to hours of (unusual) morning thunder here in Central Pennsylvania.

A massive Mesoscale Convective Complex, which had its origins in Iowa
Thursday afternoon, is powerhousing its way through Pennsylvania this
morning, bringing with it heavy rain and intense lightning.

The complex is currently centered near Altoona PA, and is larger than the
entire state. On Enhanced Infrared satellite imagery, the tops of the
clouds are near -80 degrees celcius.

Satellite:

Rain rates have exceeded 2.7" per hour near the center of the storm.

Radar:

Currently 18 Flood statements and 11 Severe Thunderstorm Warnings are in
effect from this storm.

29,000 lightning strikes have touched ground (CG, Cloud-to-Ground) in the
United States in the past 2 hours; I'm willing to bet that 15,000 strikes
are from this storm, if not more (there is currently also an MCC in
southern Minnesota).

From my lightning detector in Central PA, since midnight only, I have
detected 39,000 "strokes", at up to 291 per hour, primarily IC (In-Cloud)
which is purple and pink on the graph. This is the highest 1-minute count,
and is about to be the highest daily count, this year.
