A deep storm moving in from the Atlantic was impacting much of
western Europe on Sunday. A belt of rain reached from England and
Scotland through France to Spain. Rainfall totalled 5.4 inches at
Perpignan, France. Sustained winds of 25-40 mph were common over the
British Isles. Ahead of the storm, southerly winds were warming
Germany. In Berlin, temperatures had reached the middle 60s at
midday, well above the average high of 57 degrees.
Iceland was also subjected to some stormy weather over the
weekend. Snow fell steadily for over 27 hours at Galtarviti. Sustained
winds reached 55 mph at Vestmannaeyjar on Sunday morning.
A large storm sweeping eastward from China drenched parts of the
Korean Peninsula with heavy rain on Sunday. Rainfall was an inch and
a half at Chungmu, nearly 2 inches at Wando and just shy of 5 inches
at Seogipo.
Much of India wilted in an unusually severe, early heat wave over
the weekend. Highs of 110 to locally 115 degrees were set in eastern
states from Andhra Pradesh to Bihar and West Bengal.
Most of Thailand was still in the clutches of a withering heat
wave over the weekend with widespread 100-degree temperatures. With a
high of 102 degrees on Sunday, Bangkok had its sixth 100-degree high
of the week thus far. The combination of heat and humidity made it
feel as high as 113 degrees.
