Much of India Saturday wilted in an unusually severe, early heat
wave. Highs of 110 to locally 115 degrees were set in eastern states
from Andhra Pradesh to Bihar and West Bengal.
Saturday, most of Thailand was still in the clutches of a
withering heat wave with widespread 100-degree temperatures. Bangkok,
in reaching 101 degrees, had its fifth 100-degree high of the week
thus far. The 106-degree mark at Nakhon Ratchasima was amongst tops
for the day.
Perpignan, France, within 24 hours ended Saturday, had rainfall
of 5.4 inches.
A spring storm pelted Bandar-e Anzali, Iran, with rainfall of 2.3
inches as of Saturday. The same storm left six inches of snow at
Ardabil.
Over three days ended Friday, rainfall was nearly 15 inches at
Nausori, Fiji.
Some harsh cold atop the ice sheet of East Antarctica Friday.
Lowest temperatures were 96 degrees below zero at Vostok, and 94
degrees below zero at Dome "C".
Friday, Kuwait City notched its first 100-degree reading of the
year with the help of stiff southwesterly winds in advance of a cold
front. The high of 102 degrees was more than 10 degrees above average
for the middle of April.
Unusual springtime warmth was felt in an area of northeastern
China westward and southwestward from Bo Hai, an arm of the Yellow
Sea, on Friday. Highs in the 80s were widespread here, and there were
a few hotter spots. In Shanxi province, 91 degrees was reached at
Shijiazhuang, thereby surpassing the mean daily high by a full 20
degrees. Beijing was about 15 degrees above average in topping out at
84 degrees.
