Sunday afternoon, Typhoon Sudal was weakening a bit over the
Philippine Sea. Centered about 700 miles east of Manila, Philippines,
Sudal had sustained winds of 125 mph and was moving nearly due north
at 8 mph. The storm is expected to continue moving toward the north and
then turn toward the northeast, weakening slowly as it does so.
Temperatures over parts of Alberta will be climbing well above
normal on Sunday with high temperatures of near 70 degrees as far
north as Calgary. These mild temperatures will approach record heat
in some areas Sunday and will likely break records Monday.
Sunday saw temperatures in Vostok, Antarctica continuing to climb
from the cold -96 degree below zero temperature on Saturday. Early
Sunday morning, temperatures were up to -66 degrees for the first
time in several days. Typical highs are near -75, so the current
temperatures are approaching a heat wave for the area.
