"ONE person was killed and another missing, feared dead, after a severe
rainstorm struck Fiji today, Radio Fiji reported.

Much of the main island of Viti Levu was hit by the heavy rain, with
extensive flooding in towns and villages in the west of the island.

Thousands of mainly Australian and New Zealand tourists are in the area for
the Easter holiday.

The United States Joint Typhoon Warning Centre in Hawaii today declared the
storm to be a tropical cyclone but the Fiji National Weather Forecasting
Office said it was a depression, a weaker storm."
