Yesterday's subtropical disturbance that passed across the south central
peninsula has opened the door to trailing deep tropical moisture and heat,
creating a very summerlike day. We have a deep SSE flow, surface dewpoints
are in the mid to upper 70's, precipitable water is 1.80-2.00", a LI (lifted
index) of -9 to -10, widespread MPDI values of >1.0, CAPES approaching 5000,
0-3 km helicity >150, 500 mb temps of <-9 deg. C, with an increasing lapse
rate and an approaching vorticity maximum for the Gulf Of Mexico.
It all adds up to strong to severe thunderstorms chances across much of
the peninsula today and probably through Thursday.
Take Care,
Thomas F. Giella
