Tropical Cyclone Abaimba is a weak storm over the open South
Indian Ocean. Before daybreak Friday, EDT, Abaimba owns top sustained
winds of 40 mph. It is located 380 miles west-northwest of Diego
Garcia; it is drifting to the southwest at only 3 mph. Forecasts call
for Abaimba to head towards the southwest and the west over open seas
for the next two to three days.
Late Thursday night, EDT, Tropical Storm Nora is hovering nearly
stationary over the eastern North Pacific Ocean. Nora, having highest
sustained winds of more than 60 mph, is located 280 miles
south-southeast of Mexico's Isla Socorro, one of the Revillagigedo
Islands. Nora is forecast to take on a northwesterly drift within the
next 12-24 hours; thus, Nora could strike the Revillagigedo Islands
within two-day's time. Nora is not seen as an immediate threat to the
Mexico mainland.
Record-smashing warmth in Alaska was shared with the neighboring
northwest of Canada this week. Thursday, Whitehorse, Yukon, set a

Territories also basked. Inuvik, on the arctic Mackenzie River Delta,
hit 70 degrees, far above the daily mean of about freezing.
Seventy-degree warmth stretched southward along the mighty Mackenzie
and beyond. At Fort Liard, NWT, Thursday's high of 80 was at least 35
degrees above normal. Fort Nelson, BC, soared to a summery 78 degrees.
Hue, Vietnam, had two-day rainfall of 8.8 inches as of Friday
evening, local time.

Vigo/Peinador, Spain. Meanwhile, September ended wet and October
began wet in Lisbon, Portugal. After nearly a month without a drop of
rain, Portugal's capital city had 2.3 inches of rain Wednesday and
Thursday.
