[STORMREPORTS] New September Wind Record. Smithsburg, MD 2 NE

From: JimTheWeatherGuy{at}aol.com
Date: Thu Sep 18 2003 - 21:11:10 EDT

Hidi-ho good neighbors. Greetings from the wind swept hills of the Mid
Atlantic. Hurricane Isabel has been raking my homestead in the hills since 11 AM
this morning. For those who don't know I live on the western side of a 1,500 foot
mountain and when the winds are out of the east or north east the wind is
compressed against the mountain and comes screaming over the top.
At 8:05 PM the wind gusted out of the ENE at 63 mph. That is a new wind
record for the month of September surpassing 61 mph set on September 29, 1999.
Right now the wind is out of the ENE at 48 mph gusting to 59. The average wind for
the day is a brisk 42.7 mph. The rainfall is a disappointing 0.65 inches so
far. Isabel is still 200 miles to my south. It will be interesting to see how
high the wind will go tonight. Until later.
         Jim
