"(CNN) -- With Hurricane Isabel plowing toward the U.S. East Coast,
residents and authorities alike are preparing for its potentially
devastating impact.

Isabel could be the first major hurricane to hit the United States since
the Federal Emergency Management Agency became a part of the Department of
Homeland Security.

CNN Anchor Soledad O'Brien spoke Tuesday with Homeland Security Secretary
Tom Ridge about the simultaneous challenges of fighting terrorism and
preparing for natural disasters."
