On the island of Pantelleria, between Sicilia and Tunisia,
rainfall was 10.5 inches within 12 hours ended Tuesday morning, local
time. This would be about one-half of the mean yearly rainfall for
this small island.
Tuesday, Linda is a strong tropical storm over the eastern North
Pacific Ocean. Well before daybreak, EDT, Tropical Storm Linda is
about 140 miles north Isla Clarion, Mexico, and 380 miles southwest of
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Linda, packing highest sustained winds of
more than 60 mph, is headed towards the northwest at 8 mph. Linda is
forecast to follow a more westerly take within the next 24-48, and
even to turn southwards later on. One way or another, odds for any
direct interaction from land from Linda within the next few days were
see as small.
Another tropical storm may be taking shape over the eastern North
Pacific Ocean, this one southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico.
Sunday and Monday were unusually hot on Curacao, an island in the
southern Caribbean Sea near northern Venezuela. One of the Netherlands
Antilles, Curacao heated to 98 degrees on Sunday at the Hato airport,
and Monday was as hot as 97. While steamy weather is hardly uncommon
here, steady, and often strong, trade winds moderate this island
keeping average high temperatures in the 80s year round. Readings
above 95 degrees are very rare.
At Matlapa in eastern Mexico, rainfall for the last two days has
been 5.3 inches.
