News Story:
Flooding ambushes Chester County
By Lini S. Kadaba, Kathleen Brady Shea and Nancy Petersen , Inquirer Staff
Writers
"Severe flooding in Chester County yesterday forced hundreds from their
homes, prompted numerous rescues, submerged streets, closed schools, and
left a woman and young girl clinging to a tree awaiting rescuers.
The worst flooding was concentrated in Downingtown - which declared a state
of emergency - Avondale and Kennett Square, communities along the
Brandywine Creek in Chester County, officials said.
The floods, sudden and swift after six to eight inches of rain fell
overnight, caught Chester County and borough officials, school districts
and commuters by surprise."
