The possibility of thunderstorms and lightning did a number on our big
Labor Day celebration (story below). After the cancellation was announced,
the large crowd left the AK grounds in a quick and orderly manner.
Much of the lightning never materialized, but the rain has continued - it
is still raining as I write this. We have a flood watch in effect until
noon Wednesday. My rain gauge is not working properly (will have to work on
it this weekend), so I cant give an amount for here.

Storm cancels evening events at AK celebration
By Joseph Roberts, Journal Staff Writer
Poor weather eventually brought an early close to AK Steel's Cruisin' with
the Classics Monday, but not before visitors enjoyed some good music, good
food and vintage automobiles.
"It was great while it lasted," Middletonian Bonnie Lampley said. "We just
didn't beat the rain."
AK Vice President of Public Affairs Alan McCoy took the event's main stage
at about 5:30 p.m. to say that approaching thunderstorms forced organizers
to cancel the rest of the evening's events, which would have included a
Middletown Symphony performance and fireworks.
