I just got off the phone with a colleague of mine. I am in the wastewater
business here in NJ. Obviously power is critical to our operations. He
runs the largest plant in NJ. The fire CNN is reporting is supposedly from
HIS PLANTS GENERATOR FACILITY. It has been burning since the outage
happened around 4PM and they have yet to bring it under control. They have
no power and untreated sewage is being discharged in to the bay. They have
emergency power en route via tractor trailer and it could be functional
within the hour.
I'm not saying CNN is wrong in this case, but I have a feeling they are
reporting this fire as the cause of the outage when in fact it was
triggered by the outage.
We'll see.
