Hidi-ho good neighbors. Greetings from the wind blown high desert of the Mid Atlantic. The year of 2002 is the year which as become the standard for all my wind records in the 27 year history of my weather station. In 2002 many wind records were re-written or just plain smashed all together. Then came 2003. Several of the records in 2002 broke long standing records from earlier years but some of the records from 2002 were smashed in just a few months in 2003. Long time residents are saying they have never seen a year that has been so windy as 2003. Below is a list of some wind records set in 2002 and a running total so far in 2003.
Most Daily 50+ MPH gusts - Month
2002 : 3 - November 2003: 5 - April (4 - February)
Most Daily 50+ MPH gusts - Year
2002 : 14 So far in 2003 : 17
Most Daily 40+ MPH gusts - Year
2002 : 62 So far in 2003 : 41
Average Wind - Year
2002 : 15.1 MPH So far in 2003 : 15.3 MPH
Needless to say it has been quite brisk up here the last 18 months or so. Until later.
