[STORMREPORTS] Cursed Homestead. Smithsburg, MD 2 NE

Hidi-ho good neighbors. Greetings from the land that defies logic. My
homestead in the hills is a strange place indeed. Winds this afternoon were
blowing out of the ESE. I am wedged against the western side of a 1,500 foot
mountain. When the wind direction varies from the NE to the SE the winds play
a special game that I like to call "attack Jim's house". All that I can
figure is that the wind out of those directions seem to be compressed on the
east side of the mountain and then come screaming down the western side. I
had a wind gust of 48 mph this evening. The average wind for late this
afternoon through this evening is 37 mph. Right now (10:40 PM) the wind is
out of the ESE at 35 gusting to 44. Three miles away at Smithsburg Middle
school the Four Winds Network station is reading winds out of the ESE at 7
mph. Four miles to my NW the Four Winds station in Waynesboro, PA has a wind
reading out of the ESE at 3 mph. I can nearly see the lights at the high
school where this station is located. I had a friend use a hand held
anemometer in Ringgold, MD (1.5 miles west of my location) and he had a wind
reading of 11 mph with a gust of 17. How can the wind rattle the windows of
my homestead in the hills consistently for several hours and not be felt a
little more than a mile away? Some trees are down further up the mountain
blocking a road not far from my home. Things like this make me think this
knoll smack up against the mountain is curse. {:0>} But hey, at least it
isn't a tornado. That only happens in June around here. {:0<} Enough rambling
for now. Until later.
                            Jim
