Winchester (nw) VA

The Mesocyclone that was over the Plains states Thursday evening arched
to the Great Lakes then to the Mid Atlantic Fri afternoon. In
Winchester, we had a heavy thunderstorm between 11am & 1pm. Light rain &
some thunder lasted to 3pm, and a total of .61" of rain fell.

As the supercell worked south & east, it was fuel by heat in the 70's &
80's. I noted likely hail producing t-storms sw of Elkins WV even before
the NWS had issued warnings for the area. By the time it reached the
upper Shenandoah Valley, tornado warnings were issued for Rockingham &
Augusta counties. The MSC continued to show strong rotation from
Charlottesville to south central VA.

Although there was possible tornado damage in the Staunton area, there
was no local coverage from the media outlets Friday evening.

Media outlets did cover the storm as it advanced S & E to NC.
