[STORMREPORTS] 050803 Quick Chase Report

From: Douglas Kiesling (kiesling{at}scc.net)
Date: Fri May 09 2003 - 01:07:34 EDT

First of, Big Time Thank You's go out to Jeff Gammons and Patrick the
"Ex Media Guy" for now casting. And thanks to Mike Peregrine for
letting me crash at his place for a second time in a week.

Yep, I got the tornado that hit the Lawrence KS area on the SW side of
town. Thats Two within a week within a 25 mile area. Next time I'm
just going to camp out at the rest area between Lawrence KS and Kansas
City. I'm sure there are more interesting chase reports coming in from
the sounds of what happened today. But to make a funny story our of all
the stuff that happened today here you go. I was sitting at the
intersection of 59 and 10 on the south side of Lawrence KS and looked up
while talking to Jeff G on the phone wondering what the helicopter was
doing then looked over to my west and said to Jeff, "Hey, I gotta go and
chase this tornado let me call you back later" as if I was just talking
to someone during a commercial break while watching a TV show.

When I called Jeff back to tell him I got the tornado he thought I was
joking until I sent him the photos from the side of the road to post on
Weathervine.com

I had the right target area but the visibility out there today with the
haze was just bad. I saw a lot of chasers out there today and a lot of
people going all over the place trying to find a spot to chase in with
the storms
moving at light speed.

Thanks to Jeff for getting the photos out real quick to Weathervine for
all to see while I'm out in the field. You can check them out here at
this link and I think Stormtrack may have them up soon too.

I will post a full debriefing of this and last Sundays "N D E" tornado
when I can catch my breath.

Thanks,

Doug
