"ALEDO -- Powerful winds, heavy rains and large hail pummeled Mercer County
for more than two hours Wednesday night.

There were several reports of tornado touchdowns in the western and central
parts of the county

``We've had hail reports as large as baseball and softball size. That would
be well south of the Quad-Cities, in Mercer and Louisa counties,'' he said.
``We had more widespread reports of golf-ball size hail in southeast Iowa
and west-central Illinois. The hail was so deep it looked like they had
snow plows out.'' "

24-hour doppler estimated precip estimate is very impressive, showing a
wide swath of 6-12" through central Illinois:

"There probably are (damages), but we don't know where yet," a Henry County
Sheriff's Department spokesman said.

Heavy rains also were reported in a number of counties.

In Stark County, drivers were warned about low visibility caused by
thunderstorms.

In Mercer County, a tornado observed three miles south of Aledo at 6:42
p.m. caused damage to a farm. Severe flooding was reported throughout the
county. Downed power lines and trees also were reported. "
