QUOTES:

"ANTIGO - Floodwaters from rainfall and snowmelt closed portions of major
roads throughout Langlade County, including Highway 45 at Superior Street
and 10th Avenue in Antigo, and forced the evacuation of about 16 city blocks.

Craig Sazama, WSAW-TV 7 meteorologist, said the flooding was caused
primarily by snowmelt, not rainfall. Rainfall on Sunday never surpassed
more than half an inch in the areas under flood alerts, Sazama said."

QUOTES:

"ANTIGO — Melting snow combined with rainfall to create a weekend deluge in
this northeastern Wisconsin city, forcing the evacuation of homes and
businesses near the flood-swollen Spring Brook.

“It’s the worst flooding we’ve had in about 40 years,” Police Chief Bill
Brandt said.

He estimated about 40 to 50 people left about a dozen homes in the
community of 8,500 because of the flooding, and businesses were evacuated,
including a supermarket, pharmacy, restaurant and service station."

QUOTES:

"ANTIGO, Wis. -- The worst flooding in four decades in this northeastern
Wisconsin community began to ease Monday as rivers and streams swollen by
melting snow and heavy weekend rain started to recede.

Gov. Jim Doyle declared a state of emergency in Langlade County, where
flooding forced the evacuation of some homes and businesses.

Officials estimated up to four inches of rain fell over the weekend.
Streams and rivers had significant ice before the rain, and snow-covered
pastures and cropland could not absorb the precipitation.

Several county roads were covered with water and some washed away,
authorities said. A portion of U.S. Highway 81 also was closed."
