The snow that fell on the Carolinas was one of the heaviest on record.
In Rock Hill SC, just south of Charlotte NC, saw 18:. Charlotte measured
13" at the airport & 17" in the southeast part of town. That was the
heaviest single day total, & 3rd heaviest storm. Unofficial reports of
20 to 22" were also received. In many instances, thunder snow boosted
local totals.
On Thursday AM, light snow (by northern standards) fell in N GA. Many
areas received 1-3" of snow (again w/ local thunder snow). The first
snow there in 2 years had melted by noon.
Snow moved into the Caolinas Thursday, and was heavy overnight & a part
of Friday.
Some snow fell in the SW mnts of VA. The only station reporting wx
conditions w/ snowfall Thurs Night was Danville (just north of the NC
border.)
TWC said 12" fell, but climate reports say only 9" fell. There was no
spotter information or news accounts available Friday afternoon to
verify the correct total.
I compiled some vidcaps, news stories, & NWS information. Some of the
news links require (free but time cosuming) registration to use. Many
have galleries & a few have videos. If you just want to read the Friday
news accounts, use the last link, as I edited to a single story from
each of 3 papers.
