"Ex-Cyclone Fritz headed into the Northern Territory as heavy rains flooded
roads and cut off communities on Queensland's north coast.
The monsoonal trough associated with Fritz delivered heavy rains and local
flooding to northern Queensland.
A few more rainbands and local storms were expected as the system eased
off. The bureau cancelled strong wind warnings for the gulf.
After crossing Cape York Peninsula on Wednesday, Fritz passed over
Mornington Island in the gulf bringing heavy rain and winds but causing
little damage.
On the north Queensland coast, around 2,000 people were cut off by flooding
east of Ingham in the communities of Halifax, Lucinda, Macknade and
Taylor's Beach."
