[STORMREPORTS] AccuWeather World Weather Highlights Tuesday, Feb 10

February 10, 2004 5:19 p.m.

Tuesday, a deep tropical low, part of the monsoon circulation in
the Southern Hemisphere, is off northwestern Australia. It has good
potential to become a named tropical cyclone within 12 to 24 hours.

A hot blast of northerly wind Tuesday seared sea-side towns in
the Australian state of South Australia. Port Augusta, at the head of
the Spencer Gulf, topped out 115 degrees, and it was about as hot at
Ceduna along shores of the Great Australian Bight. Hundred-degree
heat wafted over Adelaide, the state capital. In the afternoon and
evening, winds swung about to southerly (or off cool seas) and
quickly tamed the blazing heat. Ceduna, for instance, saw nearly 45
degrees lopped off the temperature within about six hours late in the
day.

Monday into Tuesday, Weipa in far-northern Queensland, Australia,
picked up 9.0 inches of rain.

Three day's worth of heavy tropical rain have doused the lowlands
of northern Bolivia. At San Joaquin, rainfall was 7.3 inches, most of
which fell Monday into Monday night. At Magdalena, rainfall was 6.9
inches.

Soaking rains have also hit parts of Brazil in recent days. In
the eastern state of Minas Gerais, the town of Pirapora was drenched
by about 4.7 inches of rain within 24 hours ended Tuesday morning.
Moreover, rainfall from early Saturday to Tuesday afternoon was about
7.3 inches.

The week has begun awfully cold in parts of northern Scandinavia.
In northern Sweden, Karesuando dipped 27 degrees below zero for a
second consecutive day Tuesday morning, and Tuesday afternoon could
only muster a high of minus-14. Kvikkjokk, meanwhile, registered lows
of minus-24 and minus-26 degrees, respectively, on Monday and Tuesday,
and Tuesday's high was minus-13. Here, an average day at this time of
the year would have a high near 17 degrees and a low of about 2. In
northern Norway, Tuesday's morning low of minus-34 degrees at
Kautokeino was more than 30 degrees below the daily mean minimum.
