I estimate we had 5" of snow overnight & early today. My last
measurement was 4" at 2:45am, and moderate snow was still falling at the
time. About 4:30am the snow became light, and then ended about about
7:15am. The wrap around snow fell between 10 & 11am.
I went out to measure about 11:30am, and the snow had melted/compacted
to 4.5". Melting was obvious, and both my conventional & rooftop rain
gauges had water in them. Water contents is about .33".
Snow fell between 3/4 to 1" per hour between midnight & 4am. Road crews
had trouble keeping up w/ snow removal.
At least 3 tv stations began the snow coverage at 4am. At WJLA, lead
meteorologist Doug Hill spent the night at the station (or nearby) and
was on the air with the other early birds. He also had worked last night
& was still up at noon. Wonder if he does this evening's newscasts?
Two of of his cohorts had done a chat session on Monday w/ the
Washington Post com. It was his turn Thursday. The transcript is at

.
Locally, plowed roads are just wet now. Look for a hard freeze tonight.
What snow remains will be frozen in place for the next week or so. And
more snow is in the forecast for Sunday night & Monday.

That's it for now. I will work on my album in the next few days & sent
it once it's ready.
