"A FURIOUS row broke out yesterday after parts of Britain ground to a halt
in the snow.
Roads were were shut, stranding thousands of motorists in cars and lorries
for 22 hours as up to 4ins fell, causing drifts in high winds.
Flights were cancelled, trains and the London Underground hit, schools shut
and homes and businesses left without power."

"Travel conditions are improving slowly in parts of the UK after the severe
weather of the past 48 hours.
But while the big thaw gets under way in the south and east of England,
4,000 homes in Lincolnshire are expected to be without power at least until
the end of the day.
And there are still problems in north and central Scotland, where motorists
face black ice and drifting snow."
