>From Xinhua--
Torrential storms in the northern Honduran state of
Atlantida have
caused flooding, prompting an alert and forcing the
evacuation of
some 3,000 civilians, an official contingency
organization said on
Thursday.
The Standing Contingency Commission of Honduras
reported that
the "green alert" was issued to cover all the Honduran
Atlantic
region, where torrential rains caused damage to main
roads.
The Atlantic region was heavily hit by rainstorms. The
Lean River,
near Puerto Cortes, spilled over and flooded the
residential areas of
Esparta, Arizona and Sizane, where the residents had
to abandon their
houses.
Floods also cut communications with several localities
along the
Honduran coast on the Caribbean Sea, and brought
losses to the milk-
production sector of the region.
The Honduran government has sent workers and equipment
from the
Communications, Transportation and Public
Infrastructure Department
to the disaster area.
