Since Friday, a series of clippers & shortwaves has brought snow into
the mid Atlantic. I have measured 3.5" of snow since then, most on
Sunday.
On Friday, we had .31" water equivalent from wet snow & rain. Early in
the am, about 1/2" fell, mostly in shaded grassy surfaces.
The next storm was a strong Alberta Clipper, that traveled a few hundred
miles further south than normal. It was producing moisture rates
1/2"/per 3 hours Saturday night, and lost little of the momentum
crossing the Applachians.
I measured 3" of a snow, with a water content of .28".
A weaker clipper produced wet, light snow in some areas of the region
Monday. I measured .04" melted, but none accumulated.
Many schools have use most or all their snow days. Some are already
planning makeup days. First to go are "in-service" days, then spring
breaks, & then more days in June.
In worst case scenarios, the day could be lenghtened by several minutes
and Saturday sessions begun.
The snow season does not begin in earnest here for a few more weeks,
lasting till mid March.
I have now measured just shy of a foot of snow this season, along with
1/2" ice glaize. The liquid precip amount is 1.99", just one week into
the new year/month.

Accu Weather radar estimates show that .10 to .25" amounts were common,
and a few bands of .50". This meant widespread 2-4" snowfall totals and
a few reports nearing a half foot.

This satellite photo (1pm Tues) shows snow cover north of
Charlottesville & Richmond VA north into PA & NY. (Cloud cover obscures
the ground in western NY, western PA, far western MD, & WV,)
In addition, there appears to be snow cover in the Norfolk area & along
the Demarva region. Obs at 1pm showed partly sunny skies in the area,
but Norfolk reported 1.5" of
snow overnight.

Accuweather.com prepared a graphic showing why the mid Atlantic has had
more snow this winter than MN. I knew it would not stay available at
