LONDON - Environment officials warned Britons to brace themselves for
further floods Wednesday as heavy rain continued throughout the country.

The Environment Agency said it had issued more than 80 flood warnings as
rivers threatened to burst their banks, with southeast and southwest
England bearing the brunt.

Kent Fire Brigade said it had received more than 170 calls since Monday,
from people stranded in cars stuck in floods across roads, as well as
residents whose homes were becoming waterlogged.

The Environment Agency's head of flood defense, David Rooke, said the
situation was "pretty bad and getting worse."
