As we approach the New Year tremendous rainfall totals are piling up across already waterlogged central Florida. As of 10:45 pm here in rural west Plant City east of Tampa I've measured 4.5" of rainfall and it's still raining very heavily, with my backyard weather station standing in 6" of water. My December 2002 rainfall total is now 16.52" a new month record and 86.50" for the year. Other rainfall reports in the area are coming in between 8-12", centered on central and southern Hillsborough County from Brandon to Balm and west to Sun City Center and Ruskin. This will mean terrible flooding of the Alafia and Peace Rivers in particular.

Take Care,
Thomas Giella
