"Paris Clears Basements as River Seine Swells (Reuters)

The river Seine that cuts through Paris is swelling into such a
fast-flowing torrent that the city is shifting precious artworks from
nearby gallery basements and lining up a fleet of rescue boats.

Weeks of rain soaking into waterlogged subsoil have set alarm bells
ringing. Experts say it is only a matter of time before the Seine bursts
its banks and spills into underground stations, cellars and sewers -- as it
did almost a century ago."
