Strange day here in the Trenton area of NJ, but officially we have our
first white Christmas in 14 years according to my data. That storm (14
years ago) resulted in a dusting of snow, so depending on your definition
of a white Christmas, it was 33 years ago that we had a measurable amount
of snow on the ground.
Well, anyway, I woke up to about 1.5 inches of heavy, wet snow on the
grassy areas and cars. Nothing on the roads or sidewalks. Temperature
never went below 34 degrees overnight here in southern Mercer County,
NJ. At about 7:45 AM the precipitation changed to all rain. As of 10:45
AM we have had 0.53" of rain and it is falling moderately at a rate of
0.28"/hr.
At about 8:15 AM the wind shifted from the North to the NNE and has
increased a bit to about 15 MPH avg., gusting to 28 MPH. Our temperature
has risen to 41F now.
All the snow has melted now :-(
However, this afternoon we have a Winter Weather Advisory in place. After
the cold front passes, we are forecast to receive another 3-5" of the white
stuff, with temperatures dropping to the low 20's tonight.
That will be nice if it happens, but my interpretation of the current radar
leads me to believe that we will probably just get a few snow showers with
little or no accumulation.
We'll see!! At least my 1 year old son got a chance to see a white
Christmas this morning!!!
Happy Holidays to all.
