"(CNN) -- A tornado tore through this town Thursday, injuring scores of
people as it struck a Wal-Mart shopping center, a La-Z-Boy chair factory
and several houses, authorities said. Forty people were hurt in the
tornado, said Amy Carruth of Mississippi Emergency Management Agency. A
local state of emergency has been declared, Gary Galloway, director the
Newton County Emergency Management, said Thursday afternoon. The agency has
had reports of fatalities, but it has not been able to confirm them, he said."
