Md. Tornado Weaker Than Estimated (Associated Press)
The National Weather Service on Tuesday downgraded last month's deadly
tornado in southern Maryland from an F5, the most powerful, to an F4, and
said it had wind speeds of up to 260 mph.

The April 28 storm killed five people and injured nearly 100 others,
damaging or destroying hundreds of homes and businesses in Charles and
Calvert counties.
A National Weather Service team looked at the damage to buildings before
downgrading last month's tornado.
"We found some homes that were pretty much completely destroyed only to see
that the mailbox was still standing or the leaves were still on the tree,"
Ogren said.
Other buildings were damaged by flying debris. An orthodontist office was
destroyed primarily by steel beams and other materials swept from a nearby
lumber yard.
The tornado left a 68-mile damage path and traveled at speeds of up to 55
mph, reducing the amount of time people had to react, Ogren said. "The
storm was moving so fast that it was on La Plata like that," he said,
snapping his fingers.
