The weather was set up today for severe storms. A tornado watch was
issued at 3pm cdt for all of the Texas panhandle all the way into
Kansas. The storms started firing up about 330pm in Moore county.
This storm became severe quickly and caused large hail and a lot of
rain. The storm soon had a tornado warning with it, but as far as I
can tell never produced a tornado only some spin-up's. Later a storm
popped up south of Herford, Tx and very quickly gained intensity by
5pm it was a severe storm. It began producing large hail up to
baseball has been reported. The storm has had several tornado
warnings with it. A tornado was spotted west of Umbarger and was
headed toward Canyon. I don't believe that this tornado did any
damage. At this point I decided to head out and try to get a glimpse
which tunred out to be a bust, and now the storms are near where I
was not more than an hour before. Soon, another storm (possibly the
same one) started out west of Happy and produced a large wedge
tornado. SADLY, it went through the town of Happy and 2 people are
confirmed dead. It hit a Baptist church and some other structures.
This tornado will probably be classified an F-4. This happened
within the last hour. (it's currently 805p cdt) This storm is still
raging over Palo Duro Canyon state park and does not seem to be
dissapating in the least. Hopefully it will stay over open country
and not cause anymore damage. Anyway a sad day in Happy and for the
people in the area. If I get more information I will try and post it.
