(From Omaha Herald)
A late-March storm pummeled a strip of eastern
Nebraska, dumping 8.5 inches of snow on some areas
before moving out Monday morning.
An American Airlines plane slid off a runway at
Eppley Airfield in Omaha after it landed on a flight
from St. Louis late Sunday.
The 50-mile-wide band cut through Jefferson and
Saline Counties in southeastern Nebraska and pounded
Lincoln and the southern portion of Omaha's metro area
before moving into Pottawattamie County in Iowa.
March has offered Omaha the harshest conditions of
the cold-weather months. More snow fell in March than
in any other month this winter: 11 inches this month,
compared with 6.6 inches in January. Omaha's coldest
temperature this winter - 5 below - occurred March 3.
The fast-moving storm also had coated eastern
Colorado with ice and up to 7 inches of snow, closing
Interstate 70 between Limon, Colo., and the Kansas
state line for more than 13 hours. Westbound lanes
remained closed Monday morning.
Kansas got up to 6 inches of snow and parts of Iowa
collected 4 inches.
