A flash flood has damaged homes and destroyed food
stocks at the village of Yulmarab near the town of
Mazar-e-Sharif in northern Afghanistan.
The local police chief said 24 homes had been badly
flooded after heavy rains on Friday, and officers had
mounted a rescue operation.
Working up to their knees in mud, they used a rope to
pull children to safety.
The police said that the villagers were very poor and
the impact of the incident was great.
