Violent thunderstorms rattled parts of Mississippi
early Saturday, hours after a possible tornado
destroyed two homes and damaged a school.
During the thunderstorms in central Mississippi on
Saturday, the National Weather Service said radar
tracked one possible tornado from south of Jackson in
Hinds County to north of Brandon, followed by a second
possible twister that moved from rural Rankin County
into Scott County. There were some reports of damage.
Late Friday, another possible twister struck Jones
County. In addition to two houses that were destroyed,
several others were damaged, including a high school,
said Don McKinnon, director of emergency management
for Jones County.
He said no warnings had been issued before the storm
struck. "It just blew up."
