I was impressed with the -60 F minimum temperature in northern
Saskatchewan earlier this week...but I'm *really* impressed
(albeit somewhat skeptical) of a report of -62 F (-52 C)
this morning in northern Utah:

AT THE SALT LAKE CITY AIRPORT THE LOW WAS -5. THIS IS THE FIRST
BELOW ZERO READING AT THE AIRPORT SINCE FEBRUARY 4 1996 WHEN THE
TEMPERATURE FELL TO -2. THIS MORNINGS TEMPERATURE WAS THE COLDEST
SINCE FEBRUARY 3 1996 WHEN THE LOW WAS -12. THE RECORD LOW FOR
JANUARY 30 REMAINS AT -6 FOR THE SLC AIRPORT...SET IN 1979.
AN UN-OFFICIAL TEMPERATURE OBSERVATION THIS MORNING IN MIDDLE SINK
WAS -62 AT 530 AM AS REPORTED BY THE UTAH STATE CLIMATOLOGIST.
MIDDLE SINK IS LOCATED IN THE UPPER REACHES OF THE LOGAN RIVER
DRAINAGE BETWEEN LOGAN AND BEAR LAKE.
Information I have says that the official state record minimum
is -50 F (-46 C) on 05 January 1913 (at Strawberry Tunnel).
A NOAA-12 AVHRR longwave IR image from 12:00 UTC does hint at
some -50 to -55 C brightness temperatures for some of the
highest elevation areas along the UT/WY border, but with
1-km pixel resolution, one can't hope to resolve the small
scale of the really cold air that may have been present
across the Logan River drainage region:
