RE: [STORMREPORTS] Snow in San Francisco (and sleet and hail)

The coastal hills are covered in white once again around the
Monterey Bay area. I have been a bit oblivious to the weather world over
the last few days and was quite surprised when I got out to my car this
morning to find it encased in ice and hail at Fort Ord. Snow levels dipped
below 500ft in some of the surrounding areas this morning and many of the
surrounding coastal hills are capped in white. I was quite surprised to see
that KRMY had reported temps as low as 36 in rain earlier this morning. I
had never before seen temps that low during precipitation events since my
arrival in May99.
I spent much of my morning up at the Defense Language Institute and
had a good view of the TCU's and CB's moving in from the bay. At about
1115, we had a 15 minute hail shower that accumulated in grassy areas.
Mammatas clouds were visible for much of the morning as the instability
showers slowly moved through the area.
The showers and hail continue as strong upper level CAA continues to
destabilize the atmosphere and snow levels will again dip to and below 500ft
again tonight. I may venture into the surrounding hills so my daughter can
play in snow for the first time.

Cheers,
