[STORMREPORTS] CA storm Warning

From: Franc Fortina (franccz58{at}yahoo.com)
Date: Mon Oct 29 2001 - 21:35:38 EST

A storm system dropping south out of the Gulf of
Alaska will interact with subtropical moisture moving
toward the California coast from the southwest. The
result will be the first significant rainfall of the
season for the San Francisco and Monterey Bay areas.
Some light rain will spread over the area from the
north late Monday afternoon...as the storm continues
to organizes offshore. Rain rates will increase late
Monday and especially Monday night as the brunt of the
storm pushes onshore....with the heaviest rainfall
occurring Monday night into Tuesday morning. Rain will
taper off Tuesday afternoon...with scattered showers
to follow Tuesday afternoon. There is a slight chance
of some embedded thunderstorms with the system on
Tuesday.

Rainfall totals through Tuesday will range from a half
inch to one and a half inches across most of the
area...with up to 2 inches in the coastal
mountains...especially in the North Bay.

Rainfall for most areas is expected to begin this
evening... and is very likely during the commute.
Those driving should be alert for slippery spots on
roads as the initial rainfall accumulates on road
surfaces that are coated with oil residue. Once
heavier rains arrive this evening...local street
flooding is possible as leaves and other debris clog
storm drains.
