AT 6:45 Pm a TORNADO WARNING was issued for Jackson county Ms
for a FUNNEL CLOUD spotted 12 miles south out over the mississippi
sound
moving NE at 30mph.
TORNADO WATCH STILL IN EFFECT till 12:00pm midnight
I lost power at 7pm and between 7 and 7:20 it was up and down 4 times
at 720 it came on and stayed on.
highest wind gust recorded at my site was 16 mph before it went down
as i write this at 8:30 my cable provider is still down
here is the damage as i have heard from other hams and police
frequencies
1. numerous tress down through out the city, 2 on cars
2. some phone lines are down as are some cable tv lines, mine
included
3. approx. 60% of the power is out and lines down all over the city
(SOME LIVE)
4. two funnel clouds spotted by Law enforcement inside the city
proper both moving at high speed to the northeast at approx.
7:15 pm
5. two railroad crossing have had their crossing arms destroyed also
possible damage to tracks (CSX INVESTIGATING)
6. 1 house fire due to lighting
7. one gas station partially destroyed, pump awning and door ripped
off
8. no injuries reported as of 8:30pm
9. three buildings with windows blown out, a pawn shop, a sports shop
and a rental store, all next to each other
10. river pilot called out as a SHIP broke its moorings, don't know
if it was a navy or commercial ship at this time
this has NOT been confirmed (3rd party report)
11. house next to mine had screen door ripped off (Moreland St in
Pascagoula)
12. I have small limbs down in yard and lawn furniture down the
block.
13. various reports to PD of GASOLINE SMELLS in the city proper
14. cable restored at 10:00pm

all in all a hairy night here but most of the excitement was over by
8:00pm and reports gathered from ham frequencies and
police scanning, we survived and all is well
