Storm report for Temple, Bell County, Texas
(60 miles N of Austin, Texas)

We lucked out here in Bell County with regards to the line of severe storms that
moved across most of Texas last night and early this morning. Several tornadoes were
reported 30 to 50 miles to my NW and N and a nice bow echo developed just to the
south of Bell County through the Austin area down to San Antonio. All we received was
some heavy rain, frequent lightning and no wind to speak of. Bell County was never
put under any kind of warning. Our local ARES group went into stand by mode around
11:30 p.m. but stood down at 1:00 a.m. and was never activated.

With it being Saturday morning and no local news until tonight and all the action
taking place after the newspapers were put to bed, damage reports are sketchy. Here
is what I gathered from last night's TV reports.

There were reports of a store destroyed, several houses with roofs blown off and
propane
tanks that are leaking due wind damage in a small community west of Waco. This is
about 10 miles from President Bush's ranch in Crawford (and about 30 miles to my NW).
A Farm to Market road in this area is also closed due to debris on the roadway.

There have also reports of two apartment complexes being damaged, some kind of a
building called the Auction Block destroyed and a nursing home being struck by
lightning in the city of West, TX about 50 miles north of me on IH 35. One local TV
station reported around midnight that there had been only a "few minor injuries".

All three of the local major TV stations went live with severe weather coverage
around 8:30 p.m. and stayed with continuous coverage until 10:30 p.m. Several of the
radio stations did a good job during the day yesterday of warning people going to
Friday night football games that severe weather was likely Friday night. It also
seems that authorities at the games in the path of the severe storms did a good job
at getting folks under cover in a timely manner. Several games were suspended and
will resume at 6 p.m. tonight.
