A thunderstorm this afternoon (8/24) dumped 1.91" of precipitation at the
Southernmost Weather Observatorium. The rainfall was in a time span of about
one and a half hours. Meanwhile, NWS EYW recorded only a trace of
precipitation from the storm. The NWS office is located about three miles
from my station. It is on the eastern side of the island, while my station
is located on the southside of Key West. There was also some localized
street flooding and numerous lightning strikes--one of which I believe hit
the building I work in at a state park on the south side of Key West. There
was no apparent damage. The temperature also dropped from 88 to 76.5 during
the storm.
