Subject: No Respect for Geopolitical boundaries....

Wx-talkers,
Cyprus experienced a tornado this past Sunday (19 Aug 01)
at 230 am local time. It has been approximately 30 years since
a Cypriot tornado of this significance occurred. The tornado
picked up several cars before dropping them to the ground.
One passenger was killed while another was injured severely.
The website with the information is a newspaper that has long
since changed (it's a daily)....

Waterspouts are common in this area, but tornadoes are rare.
The tornado showed no respect for geopolitical boundaries
causing considerable damage to both the Turkish (north) side
and to the Greek (south) side.
